Our glamorous hostess and mistress of parades, Miss Bonnie Rose, shares her secrets for getting the most out of your day at Love Vintage...
Come prepared. Make sure you check out the Show Timetable on the website for parades, workshops and demonstrations, and the list of exhibitors for shopping.
Wear comfortable shoes! Some pretty ballet flats are great, but pack your heels in your bag to try on with all those gorgeous frocks you’ll find!
Bring the Gals. You will need their expert advice…
Bring your cash. Make sure you bring cash with you as unfortunately ATMs can break down and a number of exhibitors will only accept cash. You don't want to miss out on that fab find!
Choose an icon. Research ‘Old Hollywood Starlets’ and pick a star who has a style that most reflects your own personality.
Know your measurements. Take your measurements at home and bring your measuring tape with you. Vintage garments can be deceiving and the sizes have changed a lot over the years.
Know your body shape. Your body shape can determine which eras and styles suit you best. Slender, boyish types look amazing in ‘20s and ‘30s styles, and voluptuous hourglass ladies are incredible in 50s outfits. Fashions from the ‘40s tend to emphasise the shoulders and waist and look fabulous on a range of body shapes. Don’t be afraid of shapewear either, if it fits you properly, it shouldn’t be uncomfortable – and it works wonders for smoothing out your silhouette.

Be adventurous! If I only had a dollar for every time a lady has said to me “Oh wow! I would never have tried that on if you hadn’t made me…” Don’t discriminate because it’s not looking great on the hanger. You may be pleasantly surprised at just how great it looks on you!
It’s all in the detail. Vintage costume jewellery and accessories like clip earrings, brooches and belts can be ‘as cheap as chips’ and will transform an outfit, making you look so well put together. Never underestimate the power of seamed stockings either!
Make a day of it. Celebrate and admire your new vintage finds over champagne and a piece of cake at the show café!
Have Fun! Vintage is an adventure and adds excitement to your wardrobe, so have fun. Half the fun of wearing vintage is finding your special pieces… so happy hunting!
